Our mission is to market and sell information to convince travelers to choose the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for their conventions, meetings, and vacations.
In 2009 alone, direct spending by travelers to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania generated $32.9 billion.
In 2009, visitors generated a total of $3.4 billion in state and municipal tax revenues.
Due to the major tax revenues generated by tourism industry in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, each one of our 4.9 million households benefits with $575 in tax savings. Put another way, if not for tourism industry, each household would have to pay $575 in additional taxes to maintain the current level of state services.
The Pennsylvania Tourism Coalition feels strongly that Advertising and promotion dollars work. That private industry is a vital part of this process. The expenditures of visitors who visit Pennsylvania as a result of our marketing efforts generate badly needed tax revenue and help reduce the burden on Pennsylvania’s General Fund. Tourism promotion is an appropriate role for public tourism development funding to be used to promote Pennsylvania business, particularly small business. |
